I posted this to the Free Slave's latest comment thread. He's up for it, but doesn't give an opinion yet on Brazil vs. later. I know he's been to Brazil & liked it. Changeseeker is also up for the general idea, but says English speaking island is better. In the comment, I recommended both. Changeseeker also says, meet up socially in N.O.
I think all of these bloggers, and maybe a few more, should try to meet up as a series of blogging panels at the 2007 or 2008 congress of the Caribbean Studies Association. I can explain why this is such a good idea, although it'd take too much space in a comment thread. But I'm not kidding, and I was talking about the idea with someone earlier today, so when I saw this post, I figured now was as good a time as any to put it out there.
The 2007 congress is in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, in late May-early June. Expensive to get to and not everyone speaks Portuguese. But it's a possibility. The other idea is to wait until the following year, when the congress will be somewhere closer to the U.S., easier to get to, and possibly English speaking. Or perhaps, go both times: those who can, make it to Brazil, and even more, show up the following time.
I agree with Changeseeker. Out-of-country travel will be out of my budget for....oh, 10+ years? Email me at gbspotmail@gmail.com.
I'm down for Salvador. I've been once and loved it. Hi G Bitch!
